Using Date Wheel

Date Wheel™ is a time between dates calculator. Time is calculated in months, weeks, days, and business days.

Instructions

Enter a Start Date, End Date, or Duration. The oldest field that was entered will adjust to the two new dates.

EXAMPLE:

  • Enter start date of January 1, 2013.
  • Enter duration of 45 days.
  • End date is calculated to be February 15, 2013.
  • Change the end date to February 16, 2013 and the start date is changed to January 2, 2013.

  • Use the Settings button to pick an input method (calendar, pop-up list, or text on desktop), and to select your locale.

    Duration Units

The 'Duration' units can be changed between displaying weeks, days, and business days.  To change the duration units, click on a selection:  Months, Weeks, Days, or Business Days.  This affects the behavior of the duration arrow buttons. Start/End date buttons respond as in 'Days.'

When the display is set to 'Months':

  • small arrows change duration by 1 month
  • large arrows change it by 1 year
  • decimal reflects financial months calculation
  • When the display is set to 'Weeks':

  • small arrows change duration by 1 week
  • large arrows change it by 1 month
  • When the display is set to 'Days'
    or 'Bus. Days':

  • small arrows change duration by 1 day
  • large arrows change it by 1 week.
  • Business days are simply the weekdays Monday through Friday.

  • Holidays are not taken into account when calculating business days.
  • Future versions may or may not support holidays.
  • Lock keys

A lock can be set on a field to prevent changes to it. This is useful for when you have a firm or constrained date or duration.

When all of the fields are unlocked, changing a field will update the oldest field.

    EXAMPLE

  • Change the 'Start Date' after changing the 'End Date' and 'Duration' will update because 'Duration' is the oldest field.
  • Whenever a change is made to an unlocked field, and one of the other fields is locked, the other unlocked field will update based on the value held in the locked field.

    EXAMPLE

  • Lock the 'End Date.' Change the 'Duration' field and the 'Start Date' will update.

  • Special TODAY lock checkbox
Use the Today lock checkbox to lock in today's date. This feature allows for easier countdowns by automatically updating to the current date.

    Arrow buttons

The small arrows increment or decrement the 'Start Date', 'End Date', and 'Duration' by 1 unit. The double arrows change the dates by 1 unit of the next highest field.

    EXAMPLE

  • Start date is set for February 11, 2013.
  • Duration units are set for "Days".
  • Click on the small right arrow.
  • The date changes to February 12, 2013.
  • Now click on the double right arrow.
  • The date increments by a week to February 18, 2013.
