Using Date Wheel

Date Wheel is a time between dates calculator. Time is calculated in months, weeks, days, and business days.

Instructions

Enter a Start Date, End Date, or Duration. The oldest field that was entered will adjust to the two new dates.

EXAMPLE:

  • Enter start date of January 1, 2009.
  • Enter duration of 45 days.
  • End date is calculated to be February 15, 2009.
  • Change the end date to February 16, 2009 and the start date is changed to January 2, 2009.

  • Vibration indicates that changes made to a field puts a date out of range. Fields will revert back to last state.

    Duration Units

The 'Duration' units can be changed between displaying weeks, days, and business days.  To change the duration units, click on a selection:  Months, Weeks, Days, or Business Days.

Business days are simply the weekdays Monday through Friday.

  • Holidays are not taken into account when calculating business days.
  • Future versions may or may not support holidays.

  • Months are 30 day financial months.

    Lock Keys

A lock can be set on a field to prevent changes to it. This is useful for when you have a firm or constrained date or duration.

When all of the fields are unlocked, changing a field will update the oldest field.

    EXAMPLE

  • Change the 'Start Date' after changing the 'End Date' and 'Duration' will update because 'Duration' is the oldest field.
  • Whenever a change is made to an unlocked field, and one of the other fields is locked, the other unlocked field will update based on the value held in the locked field.

    EXAMPLE

  • Lock the 'End Date.' Change the 'Duration' field and the 'Start Date' will update.
  • Special TODAY Lock Check Box

Use the Today lock check box to lock in today's date. This feature allows for easier countdowns or tracking the age of a task by automatically updating the marked field to the current date. You must also lock the opposing date to ensure that the duration is incremented/decremented.

Tap the Today checkbox for the Start Date for a countdown. Lock the End Date. As the days pass, the Start Date will update to the current date. The duration will decrement as you countdown to the event (End Date).

Tap the Today checkbox for the End Date. Lock the Start Date. As the days pass, the End Date will update to the current date. The duration will increment accordingly, telling how long since the Start Date. This feature is useful for calcuating age or how long a task is taking to complete.

    Arrow Buttons

The small arrows increment or decrement the 'Start Date', 'End Date', and 'Duration' by 1 day. The double arrows change the dates by 1 week.

    EXAMPLE

  • Start date is set for February 11, 2009.
  • Click on the small right arrow.
  • The date changes to February 12, 2009.
  • Now click on the double right arrow.
  • The date increments by a week to February 18, 2009.
  • Saving Calculations

Calculations can be saved for future reference.

Add a calc by tapping on the plus icon on the toolbar.

Delete a calc by tapping on the trash can icon on the toolbar.

Flick through saved calculations or tap on the list icon on the toolbar. In the list mode, to move directly to a specific saved calculation, tap to highlight it and then tap done. While in list mode, you can also tap Edit to edit the name, reorder the list, or to delete saved calcs. Tap done to return to the main screen.
